8 Essential Wardrobe Tips for Your Pet Photo Session

Updated: Jul 10

Your wardrobe is an important component in the final aesthetic of your images, so it's important to be thoughtful about what you wear on your pet's big day! Not only does it reflect your personality and style, it can make a big difference in your final artwork. To help you prepare for our upcoming session, I've put together some wardrobe tips to ensure you look and feel your best in front of the camera. If you're ever unsure, simply text or email me pictures of what you are planning to wear, I'm happy to give you guidance!

Don't worry, I'll bring the lint brush ;)

  1. Express Yourself:  Your clothing should reflect your personality and make you feel comfortable and confident. Choose outfits that you love and that showcase your individual style. Whether you prefer a classic look or something more eclectic, be you! That being said make sure to read the full post! No Star Wars Pajamas! 🤓

2. Coordinate, Don't Match:

Coordinating outfits with your family or group can add visual interest to your photos without looking too uniform. Gone are the days of everyone wearing a white t-shirt and jeans 🙈. Opt for complementary colors and patterns rather than identical outfits. This will create a cohesive look while still allowing each person's unique style to come through.

3. Consider the Location:

Think about where our session will take place and choose outfits that complement the surroundings. Most likely we will have a rustic background, mountains, river, grasslands, pine trees, fall trees, or if it's Spring some beautiful florals! For our beautiful outdoor sessions, earthy tones and natural fabrics work well, while urban settings may call for more contemporary and edgy looks. Dressing appropriately for the location will make a big difference in the harmony of the image!

4. Layers and Textures:

Incorporating layers and textures into your outfits adds depth and visual interest to your photos. Consider pairing a textured sweater with a flowing skirt or layering a denim jacket over a dress for a relaxed yet stylish look. Experimenting with different textures can elevate your photos and add dimension and interest to your overall look!

5. Accessorize Thoughtfully:

Accessories can take your outfit to the next level and add a personal touch to your photos. I love when people wear a meaningful locket or ring in their images. Statement jewelry, scarves, hats, and belts can all enhance your look and help showcase your individual style. Just don't go nuts – choose one or two key accessories to highlight rather than overwhelming your outfit (unless you identify as a bohemian goddess, then by all means you do you boo!).

6. Comfort is Key:

Above all, prioritize comfort when choosing your outfits for the photography session. You want to feel relaxed and at ease during the shoot, and uncomfortable clothing can detract from your overall experience. Opt for fabrics that feel good against your skin and outfits that allow you to move freely without restriction.

7. Avoid Logos and Busy Patterns:

While it's important to express your personal style, avoid clothing with large logos or busy patterns that may distract from the main focus of the photos – you! Opt for solid colors or subtle patterns that complement rather than overpower the overall composition of the image.

8. I Will See Your Shoes!

Some images will show your shoes, so make sure you are happy with your choices. Yes, high heels always look amazing but be mindful of outdoor terrain and opt for a stylish boot with some tread. Ditch the bright colored tennis shoes or Colorado-loving "socks and sandals" look that are so comfortable but completely disjoint your outfit. Opt for a white or neutral sneaker like these images show. Luckily, many outdoor boots are becoming super stylish!

Lastly, the most important thing is to be yourself and have fun with your furbabies while I capture the action! I'm so grateful to make beautiful memories with you, and I'm here to answer any questions you may have about wardrobe choices or styling tips. Can't wait for our session!

Wags,

Shay
